Hi, i am leaving my boat at a slip all summer for the the first time and had a question about outdrives. Are you supposed to leave them tilted all the way up to keep as much as you can of the water? I am asking because i know theres going to be marine growth every where, so i wouldnt think that a build-up would be good for an impeller, and such.. thanks

Don't leave it in the water with the drive all the way up, leave it down. It is harder on your bellows if left up constantly.

No, leave it down. The bellows will get a "set" from being in the "up" position & can cause premature failure. Same goes for winterization. Barnegat Bay?......J

Get a 'bag' from Merc. It goes over the drive, keeps out the sunlight and reduces marine growth, significantly.

Chris.........

Re: Basic queston

I leave my boat in the water for 4-5 months May-Sept. I too hate the growth. I know of boats that never come out of the water (fresh water) and they get covered in gunk but it doesn't seem to affect them. I usually try to keep it clean and I usually park it somewhere on the lake and jump in and clean it off with a plastic brush. Week later its back.
