Hello to all,
I am new here, although I have read many posts over the years on and off (thanks google search). I have a few questions that I have gotten bits and pieces of info from different posts, but would like some straight forward, dumb as a box of rocks so explain carefully, answers. I'm not really that stupid but have found that finding products discussed within post to be very different than what is explained (again, thanks google). So for me to clarify, let me ask my "new guy" questions.

First let me explain my project. I have a 1989 17' Basskota, if you've never heard of them don't feel bad, most haven't. From my limited research Skeeter made the hulls and they just assembled them. The aluminum rivets leak, the floor is rotten, and it was in what appears to have been some kind of rear end "incident". The top two bolts that hold on the motor are about 2ft long and go into the splash well for added strength. The aluminum of the outside of the transom is a little beat up but not horrible.

My project will be to stop the leaks, fix the floor, fix the transom, and paint and generally restore the boat to a condition In which I can leave it in the water most of the summer and not worry about showing up to a dock with the outline of a boat visible beneath the water, as It would be if I left it over night at a dock currently.

One more quick piece of info to help facilitate the interpretation of advise, I am located in north west Wisconsin, north of Eau Claire. My chain hardware stores are Menards and Lamperts. A Home Depot or Lowes are in the twin cities (minneapolis/St. Paul) area, but are not very convenient.
1) With prices currently higher that a college kid on ski vacation in Colorado, I'm looking for a Marine grade plywood alternative. With that I am looking for a sealant for said plywood.
2) What is "oldtimer formula" and how it it different from "WoGs formula"?'
3) What is the best/cheap option for plywood sealing? I will be putting carpet and or some kind of textured paint/bedliner over all plywood so no UV.

When answers are giving, please use examples of brands for products i.e. If you say epoxy do you mean the 5 minute quick hardening stuff from the hardware store or are you referencing west systems 105? Also, If you know of a cheaper version I can get please let me know. I know my repair will only last about 10 years but that's ok, hopefully its the next guys problem, lol. (For reference, I'm the kind of person who never gets rid of anything I think I can fix. My wife often does not approve!)

I know there is a lot of knowledge on this site, and thank you for any help you can provide, and also thank you if you read this whole post, it got a little long winded, but I hope you had a few chuckles along the way!

Has anyone used this stuff or does it look like I would work? https://www.menards.com/main/buildi...ed-poplar-plywood/1253034/p-1570429800568.htm

You can use polyester resin to seal the plywood. I would use a decent plywood like AC or BC. If you can laminate some fiberglass cloth on the surface and edges of the plywood, that would be much better.

Spar Polyurethane would be second choice, obviously without the cloth.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,..... Don't use poplar, as it rots quicker than birch when/ if wet,......
As noted, use acx or bcx which is SPF, Spruce, Pine, or Fir based,.....
