I'm looking at a 1983 Ranger 372V with a 150hp in good shape. He's asking $3900, is that a good price? This is my first bass boat purchase.

My next-door neighbor has that very boat. It has so many home-brewed patches on its keel that I'm amazed it doesn't sink from the weight. The 150 Merc has its cowling off after every fishing trip. Every electrical system on the boat has been patched up numerous times.

Bass boats live a hard life.

Used Rangers pull a very high price. Justified? I don't know. But I will say that for a first boat, I would not recommend anything that old.

For the same money you could be looking 2000 or so Bass Tracker with a 40HP motor. These are great fishing platforms. If you want something a bit more runabout-ish, look for a Tracker Targa.
