Greetings, I'm new here and have been reading over the site in hopes to find my answer but am having no luck I'm fairly new to boating about 6 years and could use some help making a choice for a new prop
my boat is a 96 BassMaster 18 SV Pro, it has what I think is a 1982 Mariner 150 O/B, I have no idea what model it is. I dont know the recommended RPM's nor does my tach work.
When I purchased the boat it had a Yamaha 4blade 13 3/4 "x 24 SS prop. I used it for a while but blew the hub and went to a Turning Point 3 Blade 14.25x23 alum prop. The 4 blade SS prop seemed to lack in hole shot and getting on plane some, I could pull a tube with my young children on it but it would not plane while pulling..
The 3 blade alum is fast however when and if the boat can get on plane it over revs until I back off on the throttle, then work it gradually to speed. If I have a few kids on the boat it doesnt get on plane at all.
My compression is good and the motor is a beast! I used Turning Points prop wizard and it gave me some options two of which are 14x21 and 14x19 4 blade. My question is what differences between the two? Are the two props I have used in the past just way wrong for this boat? Could using either of these pitches cause damage to my motor?
I'm sure yall answer questions like this often and I dont mean to bore you with my ignorance on the subject, so thank you for taking the time to help me....Mike
