Can someone recommend what shaft length do I need for a trolling motor? I have an 89' Javelin 396. It's 20' boat with with a Johnson 200 on the back. I just need recommendations for the trolling motor. Considering a 24 or 36 volt Minn Kota. 80lbs vs 112lbs thrust. But, I really need to know the shaft length.

Put the boat in the water and measure from the gunnel to the water where the TM will be mounted. Add 12' and round up to the shaft lengths available.

Example - 18" gunnel to water + 12 = 30", so the minimum shaft length would be 36", 40" to be safe for the bobbing.

This is from Motorguide. A little different than what I gave earlier, but not much.
