Iam still trying to figure out why these boats are in a category all on there own, although they can do other things they seem to be nearly a one purpose machine, to go REALLY REALLY fast, is there a reason why they seem to be based all on speed?

less time drivin' = more time fishin'. In the tournament fishing time = money.

Re: bass boats?

you can bass fish from a row boat. the "bass boats" are set up with the high bow and stearn seats, to give easy casting access, without hanging a hook in you partner, and good visibility of the water, everything is compact, smooth deck inorder to move around while landing that big bass, and not be tripping over coolers, bait buckets, water skis. the boat is made for fishing. true you can fish in the morning and evening(prime times) and get the skis out of the truck for fun during the day with the family. as mentioned in tourney fishing you only have so much time to fish, the biggest wins, or the most weight for a certain # of fish. speed counts inorder to get to that special place, where you know there is a big lunker there. Pro Bass Fishing can be big money.

Go to your local lake when they are having a tourney, and the start of the tourney watch every bass boat try to get the best hole shot and full throttle it to their "honey spot" before anyone else gets there, ie. first one to get there can take all the fish before the other guy which in turn means $$$ for him.

Just like dialboy said. Forrest Wood made a fortune, and still is, building Ranger Boats (had one and loved it) to get there first.

Huge casting decks, lots of rod and tackle storage, small lowered cockpit.
You can go fast, you can fish bass, not much else.

Stability combined with speed. Two people can safely go to one side of a bass boat and remain stable.

All of the above and you can crappie fish too if you want. Unless you fish out of one, you don't realize why they are popular.Try it you might become addicted too. 8)

..... because these boats don't have air-con, so on a really hot day you can adjust the air-con manually on the throttle, for extreme condition you go WOT ... and to keep you beer cold ... lol :)

Also, shallow draft to fish the skinny water and the stumpfields and the mossbeds. Always an outboard.

don't forget bowmounted trolling motor and livewells. and the navionics.

Roscoe said it - "You can go fast, you can fish bass, not much else." No place for an ice chest (small built-in) or bait tank, no shade, no rod holders. Even on a 20 footer, three's a crowd.

Some of us are better off if we keep our center of gravity at one level. :D d:)

Going up and down to get from one end to the other, without a handrail to lean against, would be quite a challenge. :)

Also, bass boats are not set up for trolling, especially back trolling.
