I have a 1981 16ft bass trackerIII. I have the 70 hp but it is to big for the boat. it is only rated at 60hp. I would like to find a 35 to 50hp motor to trade for the 70hp. it runs great but is to big. any suggestions on where to look.
Re: Bass Tracker console--->formerly 1974 70hp too big
it seems that someone before me had put a larger engine on it. the transom has dents in the back, they look like there was to much power. also i had to put gussets on it to firm it up. Also would the engine weigh to much for the boat. I have though about using it because it runs excellent, but i do not want to get into any trouble for using it.
Re: Bass Tracker console--->formerly 1974 70hp too big
i have looked at the motors on this site. most are over 2 grand. I am a mba student at oklahoma state uiversity and i do not have that kind of extra cash. the 70 hp i have runs excellent but is to big. so i dont want to go out and spend lots o cash when i have a perfectly good engine. i have a few people who want to swap it out for their smaller one but none of them want to actually go through with it. ALSO i would like to have a compression tester. are they easily attainable and at what costs?

yeh a 58 seems to old.

I found a 1980 35hp evenrude. it seems a bit small though. does any one know if this will push the boat. i had a 63 sea king 40 hp on a boat about the same size and it ran ok(25-30mph).

does any one have one of these motors and do you think it will push the 16ft almn. boat

Re: Bass Tracker console--->formerly 1974 70hp too big
What do you need in a console? Does your boat not have a console? You could just build one, it will be cheaper than buying one, and will give you the experience and satisfaction on knowing that you did it.

Put the 70 on the boat. It will not hurt anything and it is no different than a 55hp 3 cylinder.

But, if you are worried, I have a 65hp merc and am about 2.5hours from you.
Re: Bass Tracker console--->formerly 1974 70hp too big
the console that was in it is trashed out. it is made from alumn. and is cracked and dented beyond repair. I have seen a few of the newer bass trackers and it looks like the consoles would fit perfectly. I just cant seem to find a used one anywhere. i have though about building it but if i can find one it would be easier. i have already totally restored the boats flooring and decking with wood and carpet so the satisfaction is already there.
the boat is only rated for a 60hp, but that is not my worries, the 70hp seems to be to heavy for the boat. I do not want the boat to be riding low in the rear because of the extra weight. that is why i am looking for a smaller motor. i have seen and drove a boat just like mine with a 40 hp merc and it worked great.
