Batt hook up options?

2001 Crestliner, 150 HPDI- One starting bat to run engine and std boat acc. One deep cycle to run troller.
Now the question. There are times on occasion where the main starting bat is dead and needs jumped recently because of a failed dual bank charger.
Is there a switch I can install to tie both batts together for the purpose of jumping and then going back to one and is there another option so I can have my DC charge while I am motoring?

Ayuh,... 1 of the standard dual battery selector switches will do that...

Re: Batt hook up options?

So- what would a hook up diagram look like?
My main starting battery runs standard accessories equipped on the boat, bilge, lights, live well, stereo, capstan, two-way radio etc.
My second battery operates only my trolling motor.
Both batteries are hooked up to an on board dual bass pro battery charger.
I visualize the main boat power cable going into the battery switch and one cable coming out of the switch going to the main battery. I also see another cable coming out of the switch to the second battery. That should be it correct?
Now if battery #1 is selected- power flows from the alternator to battery #1 only and battery #2 still only operates the trolling motor.
If battery #2 is selected, the starting and all accessories mentioned above including the trolling motor will now be used while battery #1 is basically disconnected and battery #2 is charged via the alternator.
Finally- if both are selected this would tie both batteries together so if one battery were too weak to start the engine you would have both- correct? And while in both while the boat is running both batteries are charging- correct?
So if what I've stated is correct, does this in anyway negatively affect my alternator and any other system by having an extra battery to charge?

What is the ACR and the round object with the 1, 2 and C.
Looks like the 1 is for the main the 2 for the aux and the c for both?
ACR??

ACR = Automatic charging relay which you don't have so don't worry about it. The 1,2,C circle is the switch.

Basically you just need a 1,2,(C)ombined switch and wire it exactly as you described. Switch to 1 to start the motor then to both while you are running. When you stop and run the trolling motor switch to 2 only. That will save the starting battery for when you need it.

There should not be a problem charging both batteries from your alternator; that 150 should put out at least 18amps.

Perhaps this is a little simpler to follow.

All loads would connect to the COM terminal so you can power everything from either or both batteries or start the engine from either or both batteries. Very common setup. If you have a troller it would connect directly to the troller battery.
