Before I start, I never been to a lake with my boat, I always go to the ocean. This is in case you think I've been kicking my woofer on lakes.

(Please see my setup image.)
I need help with my setup, I have two 12 V batteries with an ACR between them, all minor electrical are connected there (lights, horn, etc...) I have another 24V (Deep cycle) battery where I connected three amps and the stereo/ipod.

My question is, is there anyway I can connect my (Deep cycle) 24V to my ACR in order to get charge when I need it? If not, How can I charge this 24V battery on the water?
Any comments are welcome...

Re: Batteries Setup and charging

So you have 24 volt amps???? I think you are mistaken about what your electrical system looks like. I think you probably mean you have two twelve volt batteries in PARALLEL which still provides 12 volts but twice the capacity as one single battery. Your boat likely has a 12 volt charging system. If you did have a 24 volt system the answer to the charging question is NO. 12 volts is 12 volts -- 12 volts is not 24 volts. So what system do you really have? Do you have three batteries or four?

I have three batteries, two 12V with ACR, and another 24V just for the amps. How can I re-charge the 24V one? Can I install an independent alternator to charge the 24V battery? just thinking loud...

If this is truly a single 24 volt battery you cannot charge it from the engine since the engine has a 12 volt system. We are still curious about his 24 volt battery you are using to run the amps. Curious about the 24 volt amps as well. How about some make, model, and or pictures.

You can't without a 24v charger and AC power source ... :(

If your boat is an inboard and can handle an automotive alternator you can get them with 12/24/36v outputs. You can also get combo alternators that do all three. That would save you from needing to run dual alternators. If you're running an outboard you can get an inverter and run a small 24 ac charger but it won't charge very fast. 50 amp is about average for newer outboards and you only get that in your upper rpm ranges.

Here's a link: http://www.alphatronmarineparts.com/default.asp?pid=9 I had one in my North River and ran 24v gel cell batteries. It was an experiment that didn't really work out that well.
