Battery Cables

My current battery cables on the old 76 Cruisers Bonanza project boat are toast.......one more cranking session during recommissioning and they would have literally melted.

Here's the thing.......
The existing ones are in the area of 8ga and I am thinking I want them to be 4 ga for efficiency. I was able to find a website specializing in tinned marine wire and custom battery cables for dirt cheap ( http://tinnedmarinewire.com/wire/ .......if this is a no-no for competing with iboats I apologize).

Will my upgrade in size hurt anything? Will it help anything?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Battery Cables

You can always go with a larger cable, you just don't want to go smaller.

I use welding cable just for my jumper cables in the car for that very reason, you don't limit the load that way.

Re: Battery Cables

Good to know, thanks guys! Ordered a pair of 36" pre-terminated for around $26 shipped, so I was excited to say the least!
