Battery Cables

Recently got a 1985 Johnson J90TLCOS 90 hp Outboard, came with no power cables to goto the battery, never had to replace them before so wondering what you guys would recommend getting.

you can buy OEM stuff but good booster cables say 6 ga should work and cheaper. Use 4 ga if the cable run is " long" . You could slide a sheet or two of shrink tubing ( about 1 inch size) sold by the foot and shrink it over the booster cable for added protection. Ends will need proper connectors you can crimp on or solder on.

of course and depending on local CG rules and possibility of inspection non-marine grade cable may be a no-no ! up to you !

Put new battery cables on my 200 hp last year. The 6’ OMC positive cable was 4 gauge.

Best place I’ve found for making custom cable assemblies

I just had 00 gauge cables made for my ‘51 Plymouth through Battery Cables USA. They have marine tinned cable as an option. I would recommend them. I paid like $45 for both cables but they were 00 gauge

Dozens of OEM cables on eBay. From dealerships that repower a boat and don't install the new cables. Choose from the gauge and length you want.
