Hi all. I have a 1987 Mariner 90 and was wondering, does the cranking battery charge while the motor is running? I know there's no alaternator but is there a magneto or something that provides a charge while running? Kind of new to boating so excuse the question if it's a silly one?

Thanks.

Re: Battery Charging while running??

Short answer is yes... The battery is charged by the alternator in the engine. It's not the same as a car alternator, with a belt ect. It is a set of coils under the flywheel, same place as the ignition stator, and the output is rectified and feed back into the electrical system. If they isn't too much draw then it will charge the battery.
