I only use my battery to start the boat. Does a 550 cranking amps deep cycle battery have the same starting power as a 550 cranking amps starting battery? From what I read, the starting batteries are designed to deliver fast bursts of energy. But isn't that what cca, ca, and bca measure?

Re: Battery: Deep Cycle vs. Starting

I just replaced my cranking battery (used for starting the boat and running my Fish finder). Mine was only 440 CCA while the new one is 550. That should be plenty for the intended use. The marine amps are good to know if you intend to draw on it while the motor is off as in radio, sonar etc. Nowadays the manufacturers pretty much know what you need and how you'll use it. Just get a Marine/RV cranking battery and all will be well.
