If I leave my battery connected as much as overnight I try to start it the next day and the battery is dead. I realize I probably have a draw or short somewhere. Does anyone know the proper way to diagnose this? Its driving me nuts. Im a first time boat owner and my buddies tell me I should be able to leave my battery connected. Ive been disconnecting my battery after a day on the lake.

this is one way to test using a meter. Is your boat a inboard or outboard?.

Firstly does the battery go flat when nothing is attached to it?

If its a inboard then disconnect the alternator and tape up the wires to make them safe and see if the battery goes flat (disconnect battery first then disconnect alternator then reconnect battery).

Another test is to pull all the fuses and see if the drain is still there

How old is the battery? Yes there could be an electrical issue but it also could be as simple as a junk battery that will no longer hold a charge.

My C0 detector and bilge pumps are always on, they are hard wired in to the battery and go around the 1-2-off-both switch. Do you have things that are wired in to always be on? If there is something wired to be always on it could be broken like a bad bilge pump that is always running.
