Hi all,
I need your help to trouble shoot my trolling motor battery. My deep cycle battery is a group 27, 600 cca, which I hook up a 525 Humminbird fishfinder and a 55 lb trust Minn Kota trolling motor. The battery is 4 years old and I can troll with this setup for six hours with enough juice to go for several more hours.
Before our fishing trip on Saturday, I charged the battery and it reached 100%. Out on the lake, immediately after turning the fishfinder and trolling motor on, I got a "low voltage" alert on my fishfinder. We were baffled, but were able to use the fishfinder/trolling motor setup for a out 2.5 hours before we ran out of juice. We figured the battery is just bad and we probably need a new battery. However, back at the ramp we noticed that on our electrical line leading to the transducer, which is under water, had a cut and the wire was exposed. Could the water contact with the transducer wire be the reason the battery was reading low voltage?
Today, I took the battery to an auto shop and had the battery tested. Well, the result was that the battery is good. What do you folks think?
