Battery just for stereo use?

I am wanting to put a couple of bass tubes on my 190rs stingray and I am worried about my starting battery dying. My question is can I install a second battery for stereo use only? Also should I connect this battery to the alternator as well or just trickle charge it when I get ready to go out?

Thanks ahead of time for any help on this!

keep it simple, and light, a small car or lawn battery will should run a stereo all day, and trickle charger will perk it up over night. 22 dollar battery.

Yes, most deffinetly add a 2nd battery. I just did mine a couple of weeks ago and had the ultimate test this past weekend at the river. I ran mine off a switch, pretty simple solution and worked out great. I run 2 - 12" subs hooked up to a 1000w amp & 6 - 6" speakers hooked up to a 800w amp. Ran it cranked for about 4 hours on the beach and the only thing that died was the speaker amp:mad: Overheated. Did not even have to switch batteries but did anyways and fired up no problem. Went back to camp, put it on a trickle charge overnight and repeated same thing the next day.

Re: Battery just for stereo use?

I have one main, large battery for my system, it will run the stereo all day and night. I have a shore charger I plug into the night before going out.

I'll have to double check if it is charged from the alternator or not.

Edit~ I have 2x12" RF subs, 6 MB Quart 6.5" and 2 6X9 MB Quart, all marine speakers with a 700.5 Kicker Amp. It sounds very nice.

A second battery and a Perko battery switch will eliminate the need for a charger.
Battery 1 for the cranking battery and battery 2 for the stereo.
When running the engine put the switch on both batteries and they both will charge.

How do you like the 700.5, I just purchased one to run 4 Polk 6.5's and two Kicker 12's. Will run it @ 2ohm to the subs. The birth sheet inside the box says 1050 actual watts. Was just curious about actual performance.

I can't lie, it sounds incredible. When we raft up, mine is the one with the stereo on, sounds like a concert. I bought the boat with it already installed, so I don't know better info on the amp. It is mounted on the inside of my port console, and there is a Rockford fosgate 12" syb in a box in each console.

The 6x9's face out from below the rear bench, then there are 6.5" MB Quart Marine speakers in the sides (behind the cup holders in custom boxes), one facing bench, one facing captains chairs, one facing open bow riders on each side. It pounds, it is clear, it is definitely something I love about the boat.

I have a sony deck with an ipod dock, a USB port, a wireless remote and a wired remote on the dash to the right of the steering wheel.
