Re: battery loosing charge on omc 5.7

Thanks again guys,

I did check the voltage at the battery with the motor running and it does not appear to be charging there. I did not check the sense terminals yet. I will. Does anyone know what voltage should be at the sense terminals, 12VDC?

The previous owner said he bypassed something to make it crank and this problem appeared after that. I assume it was the assist solenoid.

I hate to be a dumb#%$, but I thank you guys again for the help.

I will jump on it and get back to you.

Hello all,

I just found the 50 amp fuse between the battery and the alternator was blown. Evidently the previous owner bypassed the assist solenoid to allow the motor to start with the fuse blown.

Does anyone know what type of problem I could encounter if I replaced the left side 50 amp fuse with a 60 amper. Is this to protect the battery from excessive current. Maybe the wiring?

Thnaks again

That 50amp fuse is supposed to provide power for everything on that motor except the trim system. I would put a 50 amp back in and undo the PO bypass and then see if the fuse blows again and take it from there. Problem should be fixed not bypassed.

ps...pick up a few spare 50's always good to have and sometimes hard find. OMC should have put 50 amp breakers in like Merc instead but too cheap!
