Lots of talk about who makes what and whose batteries. Truth is these manufacturers are transitioning so fast that it is hard to keep up. But here is a link for the latest who owns who.

Far as I know the only way to tell who made the thing is to look up the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) Required by the feds from the manufacturer.
Not that it really matters, if you find a battery that holds up and fits your needs it is the best battery in the world (whether it be Chinese or Domestic). Every body will build a lemon once in awhile and to condemn (or even promote) product line based on just one item is not the way to be (after all every body is human and humans make mistakes and sometimes a single product will be excellent even though the product line is mostly junk). Customer service is the most important item when buying anything, If they make it right then they are good, if not then it is time to not deal with them, just be careful about bashing them because there might be a lot of folks out there with nothing good to say about who your bashing.
