Battery not charging

I got my boat in the water and ran good....for a while. it started missing and lost power. got a toe back and got home and found out the battery isnt charging.....what do i need to check befor buying parts to fix. the motor is a 1971 evinrude 60 triunph... any suggestions

Test your rectifier. They are usually the culprit especially if you ever caused a spark somewhere or hooked up your battery backwards even for a second.

What condition is your wiring harness in? Not uncommon for the insulation on the harness to be in crumbs on that engine.

my wiring looks good. how can i check to see if rectifier is bad

have your battery load tested at the auto parts store (free).
