Is the starting battery suppossed to be getting charged by me or the motor??? I was under the assumption that my starting battery would be getting recharged by my outboard while it is running. But yesterday I was left stranded in a bad spot because my bettery went dead. I do not use the battery to troll with so I am not drawing any extra power from it. Is there something not working on my motor?

Re: battery not recharging

First check the battery itself with a volt meter and hydrometer. Check water level in the cells & fill with distilled water if necessary. Get or charge the battery yourself. Install back in the boat.

Start boat. Check battery voltage. It should read around 13.5 volts if the charger on the motor is OK. If less than 12 volts and drops over time you have a problem with the charging system on the motor. Then check a shop manual for your motor.

Howard
Miami Fl
