Battery Placement

Some of you may have seen that I am adding a second battery for my stereo and accessories. I am wondering if placing the battery up front under one of the seats would help with weight distribution. I am kind of new to the boating game but in cars shooting for 50/50 helps all the way around. I figured a little more weight up there could only help get on plane faster.

Re: Battery Placement

You're right to consider weight up front for easier planing, but the opposite is true for top speed. What boat? Can you make her porpoise now? It may be a good plan, but inhibits the ability of trim to get your bow up. There are other ways to improve hole shot that would not require you to sacrifice top speed. My .02.

Re: Battery Placement

i thank it is a great idea, i did it, i put trolling battery up front, i get better amount of battery life and power. So i say go ahead and try it. one battery will not make that big of difference in getting boat up.

Re: Battery Placement

A boat is different than a car, a car rides on 4 points and you want the weight distributed evenly but a boat at speed rides on the back 1/4 of the hull, the less hull you have in the water the faster you go.

As QC said more weight up front may make it harder to get the bow up and the hull out of the water.

For me, I fish and spend 90% of my time anchored so I want a 50/50 split so I don't have to walk up and down hill all night so I put my second battery in the point of the hull but I don't really care about speed since I spend so much time anchored.
