Battery advice

I'm replacing the two 12V batteries that run my Minn Kota EM80 trolling motor. I've been using a pair of group size 27's with 180RC as recommended by Minn Kota. I read a review of the Interstate DCM0035 which sounded good, especially since a pair of those would reduce the weight at the back of my boat by about 80 lbs. I'm just not sure if they would work as well as the review indicates.

Any help?

I've always had good luck with Interstate batteries. When I did have a problem with one,(A motorcycle battery), it was handled quickly and without question. I don't know if it was due a really good dealer or factory backed but from now on, I only buy Interstate batteries.

DCM0035 is only a 35 amp hour wheel chair or scooter battery. Your 80 lb thrust probably draws between 5 amps at low speed and 50 amps at high speed. Divide that into 35 and you get you run hours. Just guessing, but your size 27 deep cycles are probably 100 amp hour or more. I'd do some research before making that move..

If the battery weighs less, likely less lead and less capacity.

That interstate is a very small battery.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like I'll be sticking with the 27's. It would sure be nice to find some lighter weight batteries. With my 2 trolling batts and my cranking batt, it's a lot of weight sitting at the back of the boat.
