Hi all,<br />I like to purchase a g27 battery for my tent trailer and use it periodically for my trolling motor. It was suggested that I get a "true deep cycle" rather than a starting/deep cycle battery. Is it true that a true deep cycle have more amp hour? Now how do I know if a battery is a "true deep cycle" battery. If the word "starting" does not appear on the label than it's "true deep cycle" batter? Please clarify.

Re: battery question

If the battery label is dual purpose it will say Deep Cycle/Starting or Deep Cycle/Marine Starting. If its a normal Deep Cycle, it will say just Deep Cycle. The number of amp/hours a battery has is a function of design and has little to do with whether or not its a deep cycle. Deep Cycle batteries are designed as the name implies, to be deeply discharged where a starting battery is not. Starting batteries must deliver very high current for a short period of time and do not like to be discharged very deeply. Deep cycle is perfect for your camper as it will deliver a smaller current consistently until it is nearly dead and then drop off to nothing almost instantly. Automotive starting batteries should not be used in a deep cycle application.
