Using an unsealed battery in a boat when sealed batteries are available is nothing short of stupid! BTW, I'm in WA, where we also value our freedoms, but are clever enough to see advances in technology as a good thing, not something to be fearful of.

what you have just stated here wasn't part of the discussion or have anything to do with your blanket declaration that there was no such thing as a non sealed lead acid battery. Just for the hell of it I clicked on the first link you sent. Guess what I found..... NON SEALED LEAD ACID batteries for sale and I believe this link and offer is less than 20 years old.

https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...060103#start=1

and what does it say in part in the product info: "This lead acid power source is a cost effective way of keeping everything running" .
It also states in part: "Low-maintenance design that's easy to check and top up" Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you have to REMOVE THE CAPS from the non sealed lead acid battery to "check and top off"?
Regardless I hope the OP fixes his issues and is able to enjoy his boat and trolling motor without running down his batteries. And hopefully he learned something along the way.
