I am working on an old 1958 Glastex Speed Queen with a 1957 Mercury Mark 55 Electric start with a stator added. The boat came without a battery. Any help on getting the correct size and type. Electrical is minimal. Bilge pump, running lights, horn. I assume a wet cell dual purpose but am unsure of the cranking requirements.
Any guidance or even specific battery model numbers would be appreciated. Thanks

welcome aboard

a good site for old merc data is oldmercs.com.

some good info in this link https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...mariner-outboards/137983-1957-mercury-mark-55

as for your starting battery, a typical group 24 marine battery (available nearly everywhere) would have more than enough capacity to start your old mark 55, run the lights, pump, etc. my guess the CCA requirement would be about 300, however most batteries are 450+
