Battery terminals

I'm slowly rewiring. During this, I'll be adding a selector switch, new bus bars, new dash wiring, etc. I started today by going to get some cut-to-length battery cable, to install the switch. They only had 4' left of 2awg battery cable in red. So a quick change of plans to just replacing the cable in the worst condition. My plan was to get away from the wingnut connection on the battery, and use a post terminal connection. They only had them in lead, which as I understand, does not hold up in a saltwater environment.

I believe it was Silvertip who hates the wingnut connection, and I agree. So my question is; what material do I want the terminal connection to be?

Re: Battery terminals

There is nothing wrong with the threaded stud connection. It is the wingnuts that are the problem Use a stainless hex nut in place of the wingnut.

Re: Battery terminals

My batt's have a tendency to get wet (freshwater) and corrode the terminals a bit, but a heavy dab of red terminal gel stuff helps a ton. I vote for constant maintenance and keeping the wing nut terminal as it's easier to clean IMO.
