Re: battery ?

The worst place to store a battery for long periods is indoors where its warm. Chances are its partially sulphated.....
In the deep freeze, or in the cold outdoors is the best for long storage.

Put it on a trickle charge for 3-4 days at a rate of 2-3 amps. You may recover most of its capacity.

:)

Re: battery ?

The service station will probably give it a high amp (50), or medium amp (10+) quick charge. Neither is good for the battery. Best to get a trickle charger and charge at lower amps over longer period of time, as stated in above post.

Re: battery ?

Plugger
If it a starting battery chances may not be too good. Chances better with a deep cycle as plates thicker and usually solid lead instead of sponge lead. A battery with a low charge should not be stored below frezeing. I use a 10 amp automatic charger on my batteries all the time and never had a battery that did not last 6 years in the boat. Batteries should be charged at least once a month even if not in use. Deep cycles can go longer with out damage.

Re: battery ?

Using a trickle charger indoors shouldn't be a problem, I keep a car battery under the workbench with a trickle charger plugged into a cheap timer set to charge for 15 minutes a day and never had a problem, just keep it away from any open flames or appliances that may spark. If all else fails your battery is probably under a warranty. ;) Good luck.

Re: battery ?

Put it on a trickle charge for 3-4 days at a rate of 2-3 amps even if it appears charged. Sulphation takes awhile to break down.....
