Just a general question about my Bayliner Trophy model 2352 WA w/4.3 IO year is a 2000
The boat was new to me this season. Question is about the low speed handling of this boat? It seems to like to wander going slow comming into the marina you have to work the steering back and forth constantly to stay straight. It seems fine when you are at speed. Was just wondering if there is something about this model or a problem to look for?

This is pretty much standard behavior for v-hulls. You are likely overcompensating when you are turning the wheel, which makes the problem worse. A boat doesn't respond anywhere near as quickly as a car. Smart Tabs are reported to reduce this wandering but I have no personal experience with them.

Hi. No- there is nothing wrong with your boat :). This is a characteristic of v- hull boats. You will get used to it over time. Trim tabs ( Smart tabs for example ) will help.

thanks for your thoughts
The boat I had before this one was a V hull also and was nothing like this one.

Some do it worse than others, in many cases its the captain subconsciously making it worse. Trim tabs all the way down (either the smart or non-smart variety) can often help on many hulls.

I've noticed in previous threads on this topic that some people claim to not have a problem, while others ( myself included) do. So, it is possible that different hull designs do make a difference.
