Bayliner engine vents collect rainwater

Does anyone know of an aftermarket or backyard fix for the rain and water collector engine vents for a 1977 24' Bayliner Saratoga? Those on it now (18x4)are vertical slats, and tilted in at 30 degree along with the hull and will collect enough water in a good storm to fill the blower side hose with enough water to restrict air flow at the bottom bend (to keep the water from entering the blower). Stupid design. Any suggestions? Thanks, Robby

Any chance of flipping them around so the vents are tilted down?

No...the angle of the upper hull is tilted in at that point about 30 degrees. I could add a picture, but don't know how to do it. These OEM vents are vertical slats and directional..left side fresh air, right blower/exhaust. Although it seems like so little water can get in there, its like a 1/4 inch rain will fill a rowboat with 4 inches of water! And of course the other side just fills the bilge. Need some kind of upper shield to cover it. I've heard someone makes something aftermarket, but can't find anything yet.

Might check your local dealers or online parts to see if you can get a different vent design that fits that opening or make a removable cover with vinyl/velcro. Don't you keep it covered when it's not used??

"covered when it's not used??"<br /><br />5000 lb 24' in a slip. Just the guy next to me hosing off his flybridge can get water in it, or me for that matter. Also in Puget Sound, and we do get a sprinkle now and then (like Nov to March). Its just a bad design. I'll have to look around or make some covers. Thanks
