I have a 1987 bayliner trophy 24ft with a 350 chevy and omc outdrive. I bought the boat without an outdrive so I bought a omc cobra outdrive. What is the size prop for this boat that I should be running. Im assuming the prop thats on the outdrive is the wrong size since this outdrive was off of a different boat. Any help is greatly appreciated!

First thing you need to know is what the gear ratio is of the drive you bought.

The 5.0L would use a 1.50 or a 1.59, depending upon the year. The 5.7L would normally use a 1.40 ratio.

I think you would do well if you can find a dealer that will let you try props for the best results.
Likely will require a hefty deposit with the understanding your buying.
Probably start with a 17" pitch.

so would it matter if i use a outdrive that was geared for a 5.0 on a 5.7? Im not very good on props but is the pitch the second set of numbers such as 13x 17?

Yes, the prop size is given diameter X pitch.Your prop diameter would be at least 14" on your I/O.
The 5.0 ratio is easier for the 5.7 to turn.Motor turns 1.59 times to once for the prop. You would need a prop with higher pitch
than with the 5.7 ratio,1.40.
