BB Help what is the year of my 4HP evinrude please!

I have an old 4HP evinrude which I would like to know the year of Model# 4436R<br /> Serial # A99501<br />Also I have just got the above outboard running but am unsure how to set the high and slow speed mixtures If any one can help it would be much appreciated

That would be a '74 engine you have there. The 4/3hp Johnny/Rudes are probably the best small engines ever made. <br />To set the mixture properly, first you have to knobs to known positions. Carefully screw them both in until they just seat. Now turn the high speed one out 3/4s of a turn, and the low speed 1 and 1/2 turn. Start your engine and warm it up (it may run badly). Now on the water and at full throttle, turn the high speed one in until the engine sounds best. Turn down to low RPMS and turn the low speed one until the engine sounds best there. Then do the high speed one again.<br />Each time you turn the screw, the engine will take a while to react. So turn the screw an 1/8th of a turn and wait a couple of seconds.<br /><br />Good luck!<br /><br /> Suggested reading.<br /> A little old but good info.
