I picked up cheap (for parts) a locked-up Belgian-made Evinrude 8hp. It looks very similar to 2 other 1984/1985 6hp motors that I have, but it has 2 unique features: 1) a 12Volt accessory plug in the Lower Engine Cover (would be cool if I could retrofit one of my other motors with this, although it could possibly risk damaging EFI components) and 2) the ill-fated sticker indicating fuel mixture to be used is 100:1. Perhaps use of the 100:1 is reason Previous Owner got the powerhead locked up.

Anyhow, I have been unable to find parts diagrams for this, although Google search seems to indicate it is a 1986 model. The E8RCDE diagrams look very similar

Can anybody point me to exact/accurate parts diagrams for E8BACDE?

Thanks.

Yes it is a 1986 model

B = Made in Belgium
E = Evinrude
8 = 8 hp
BA = AC lighting, rope start (Common on European models)
CD= '86
E = a production suffix

Being a European model you'll not find it on any of the American parts sites but it should all be the same as E8RCDE with the addition of an AC lighting coil and the AC output socket on the lower cover

You have to treat the AC output as if the yellow and yellow/ blue are two hot outputs with the yellow/grey as a common return. You can get up to 25 watts from each, If you want DC for battery charging you need a 4 wire rectifier. There is / was a kit which plugged in to the socket but it could be wired with the rectifier mounted on the power head like a model with battery charging output would be.

Youll find the parts lists and diagrams for E8RCDE on this site on the "SHOP" tab under "Boat motor parts"

I think the lighting coil will fit many 5, 6, 8, 20, 25 and 30 hp models from 1984 to 1989 and a few later 6 and 8 hp models

Vic, thanks a lot for your input. Based on your explanation I get a couple ideas how I could possibly use the AC lighting coil or even convert to DC. Also the fact that this is a European Model makes me think there could be an interesting story about how the original owner obtained this motor. I bought the motor from the original owner's neighbor who was selling as a favor to the original owner (who I understand is in failing health). Thanks again.

Racerone, sorry but I just now realized that I never responded to your Reply about your freighter lifeboat outboard. That is some cool history. If some of these older outboards could talk they would tell some interesting stories about the journeys that got them to their present location. Thanks.

A lot of things made the trip here via returning US service men and women.

Remember Radar O'Reilly sending a Jeep in pieces home to Ottumwa, Iowa?
