I have an older Shorelander trailer. I would like to put some of the Bearing Buddies on it.
How do I measure or know what size to buy? I am assuming they come in different sizes anyway.

Most 5 lug axles take the 1.98 diameter. There's also two other sizes, an easy way to tell is measure the dust cap. There are several manufacturers of them and some are available in stainless for salt water use. Some of the cheapies are just chrome.

Pull the dust cap off and measure it. (The dust cover or the hub)
As shown, they come in a decimal size, the part number is the decimal size.
Easy to convert.

Measure your size...I'll use easy numbers...1 3/8"
To convert to decimal 3 divided 8 = .375
For this it would be 1.375"

Just don't over fill them!
They can blow the seal out the back of the hub!!

May I suggest that you pull the hubs and clean them and check and repack the bearings before you put the bearing buddies in. If you have bearing trouble after installing getting them out might have you calling then "bearing enemies"

Yes I thought I might just check the bearings while I was there too. This is an older trailer and I many never take it far but why wonder?
I think the guy I bought this boat and trailer from was fixing things up as it has 3 new tires, a new strap winch and a crank lift.
I have already taken the old 1 7/8" coupler off and swapped it for a 2" as most everything I tow is 2" anyway. And I don't want a warn coupler causing me problems down the road. I saw a guy lose a trailer and boat that way once.

Hey Ken I have those and one of the things I have found is that in the desert heat on decent hauls they seep a bit so I keep a rag in a ziplock with me to wipe them down each time I stop otherwise you get the typical splatter effect on the rims but overall they are great and I would recommend them to anyone.

OK, I have had them before but that was around salt water and cooler temps of N CA.
They did not leak so it must be the heat.
I am however located at 5400' and this trailer may never see the hot WX of the lower valleys as I don't like it.
But it's a good tip anyway.

Nope, that's a ways away from here and too many people on that lake for me.
I fish here in Prescott and will head over on the rim and up above from time to time.
Roosevelt is hot too in the summer for me. I don't go into the valley much either.

Yes downtown Payson is some 100 miles from here and Roosevelt is south of there needless to say.
Prescott is the original state capital. About 5400' average with several lakes close by. One is just 4 miles from my home and just up the hill at some 5800'.
To me it's amazing how little use these smaller lakes get. During early Spring during the week it may be just me there. But that works for me. :D
