Bearing, Hubs, Breaks? Help!

Spent a little more time on a project trailer today. It is an 18' frame dual axle trailer. When I picked it up it was in pieces and scattered about the PO's side yard. I have assembled the frame and axles, found some 5.7 x 8" tires and put those on (same size as the two that came with it).

Two of the hubs had way to much play and can't be tightened up. Pretty sure it is time for some new bearing kits, possibly new hubs.

Spent way too much time looking on etrailer. The only numbers that I can find are the outer bearing LM6 7048 and the bearing buddy is a 2328. The hub / wheels are 5 / 4.5. Pretty sure it is a 1" spline.

I found a bearing kit that I'm pretty sure might work. http://www.etrailer.com/p-BK3-310.html

I am considering new hub maybe a set with brakes. This is where I get confused.

On etrailer the only hubs with LM67048 outer bearing are 6 lug.

Anyone out there able to help me figure this out?

Looking for help again.

1 1/4 spindles, inner and outer bearings are LM67048, races are LM67010, seal is 203013, bearing buddy is model 2328.

I was hoping to just pick up new all in one hub / bearing kit.

For the life of me I can't find a 5 x 4.5 hub for a 1 1/4" spindle.

Any help from anyone.

Did see this in my hours of looking

but no part numbers are listed

Still couldn't find any hubs. Ordered bearing sets and going to try and clean up the hubs.

64osby, unless your present hubs have any issues with them, I can't see why new bearings and races won't work just fine. Remove the races and install the new ones and grease the bearings and see how they work. Make sure you install new rear seals and happy trailering... :thumb:

Was thinking of maybe finding a set of hubs with brakes, but that won't happen without new spindles. Can't even find basic hubs.

I would buy a new axle that came with hubs. Might not be that much more than just buying 2 hubs with bearings. Then you can get an axle with brake flanges too.

Personally, I would stop by PHYSICALLY, to my nearest Trailer supply shop, with as many of your parts in hand as possible. Here in Colorado, my favorite is Redneck Trailer Supply. That's where I learned that a good sales rep, can take you a long ways in a short amount of time. I love shopping online, but face to face still beats all when it comes to hard to find parts.

This does not sound right. Any tapered bearing (even if worn out)can be tightened enough to remove play. Do you have a washer between castle nut and bearing???

Yes, and on one hub I was working on I put two washers on and it was still a little loose.

Sounds like there was a failure that wore down the shoulder that the inner bearing runs against.

Swap hubs between right and left and see if the issue follows the hub or the spindle.
