I am getting ready to put my powerhead back together, and was wondering what to use to pre-lube the needle bearings on my rods and crank ?
Someone said they heard to use a good grade of petroleum jelly if i didnt have needle bearing grease

thanks

You need something to stick loose needles/rollers in place until assembled. That "something" should provide some level of lubrication and wash out quickly when started. We used Vaseline for many years, until they came out with the needle bearing assembly grease. I believe we turned out OK.

today I called the local marine dealer where i buy some of my parts, and asked if they sell needle bearing grease or assembly lube and he said they didnt, he told me to go to autozone and buy automotive assembly lube. I didnt know if it would wash out immediately like needed or not.

So, why don't you use Vaseline like I suggested? Any pharmacy or supermarket has that. My goodness, think how many thousands of motors were assembled using it..
