and I have to admit --- I think they suck.

Not just a little, but a lot.

I noticed that they are charging for "re-skinned" windows XP features you already have and calling them product features.

I noticed that there is a noticable overhead added to internet processing that slows down your entire internet experience.

So I cancelled the Internet Security Suite package and just bought the basic virus scan and firewall. After all, the basic products work well. Its the higher level packages that not worth the money (at least in my eyes).

Why not just go with AVG, Mark? Works well and it's free. Been using it for a long time and it catches everything...

I went to the AVG web and it looks like the software is only free for a trial period. They sell the products so I guess the trial runs out? What about upgrades to virus scan, etc?

If you go the AVG route, you may want to get Zone Alarm for a firewall.

I use symantec corp and I see that it only uses 30 megs of ram and I have no slowdown of the machine.

I do know the Home versions do slow the system down, but I don't know how much ram they use.

What you don't get with the free version:

"Consent for commercial use"

...We pay for AVG.

ZoneAlarm, like so many programs tried to be too much....the later versions are nothing but a pain....the earlier versions were good. Namely ver:5.5.062.011

Goto the ZoneLabs forums to see what I'm talking about....

Here's a listing to earlier versions....

How do you get the words to show instead of the link? I used to be able to do it before Iboats made the change over this summer but can not figure out how to do it now. Sorry to hijack this thread.

I have ben using Trend Micro PC-cillin internet security for a few years. I am very happy with it. It is cheaper for me to buy a 5 computer license than 2 copies of anything else.

It does a lot of things and lets me monitor the other computers on my network from one computer.

My only beef with it is that it is too user friendly. I like to have more control

There definitely is nothing wrong with AVG and Zone Alarm. Very good free products.
