I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BOAT WITH A 1985 MERCURY BLACK MAX 150 HP MOTOR. WHEN I START THE MOTOR IT SMOKES, THEN WHEN I START TO THROTLE OUT I GET A BEEP BEEP BEEP FROM UNDER THE DASH. IS THIS A ALARM FOR THE OIL INJECTOR PORTION?
I DID LOOK UNDER THE DASH AND FOUND WHAT I BELIEVE IS BEEPING- IT IS A ROUND APPROX. 1 1/2 INCHES ACROSS AND IT HAS DELTA-LARM WRITEN ON IT.
GUYS HELP ME OUT
dUGdUG

Re: BEEPS WHEN I THROTLE OUT

DugDug,Your engines oiling system is equipped with two reservoirs. One large one in the boat and one smaller one under the motor cover. The small one on your 85' model is equipped with a low level alarm .This is probably what is initiating the beep you are hearing. You could have a problem with the oil pump or restriction in system causing alarm to go off.I'm no Merc guru by any means and if you hang tough someone with specific points of your system will advise.
