If you have seen my other posts you will understand that I have taken on a project. Bought a boat with the motor already removed. I put the motor in tonight!!! It's a 98 omc seaswirl 5.7 GS (carburetor). Motor. I found a decent ish diagram for the starter and distributor wiring. Nothing for the grounds though. Heeelp! I'm motivated to have this running in the next few days. I have the knowledge to put it together, but I didn't take it apart...

Go on boatinfo.no and look up the wiring for a Volvo BY which is equivalent to your OMC. Better bet is to get a paper OEM manual which has the color drawings in it.

I was on there and wrote down what I could find. I will look at the BY model. The actual helpful info on the web is pretty limited usually. That boat info site is good stuff though. Off to look up BY Volvo. It is technically a Volvo motor. ^^^^ he knew that ;-)

Make sure its not a LK. Your OMC model number will have either LK or BY in it.

Ayuh,.... The Grounds either attach to a nearby bolt/ screw/ stud/ nut, or to the appliance they service,....

Grounds are mostly hooked up now. Not to difficult really. I started on the accessory mounts on the front of the motor and about lost my mind! I'm missing brackets and studded bolts all over! Got frustrated. Saturday shall bring more purchases at the local marine shop... It was a, I'll put this on, oh nope that needs more parts kinda evening. A proper exploded view of everything would be nice.
Figured out that the manifolds and risers are not near close to the stock ones, so it's custom time to make that work vs another $$$$

Oh well, I'll make it proper. Just not as fast as I want to.

Another question of course... (making great progress by the way) Oil and water temp safety switches. Why can I not find the wires that go to these? The sender wires were no problem to find and hook up. I'm getting power to the fuel pump while cranking (carb is not on yet). No power to the pump with key on engine off.

Any ideas?
