Hello everybody,
After some leaking in the boat through the bellows,I pulled out the sterndrive unit and i found the rubber gasket of the bell housing cut and next to the gimbal bearing(mercruiser A1 1978). When i tightened the bearing retainer about two and a half threads were left out of the sterndrives' "neck".My dealer who took a look at it told me that the problem wasn't caused by the left threads but because of bad handling during pushing the sterndrive in. Although I had put some sealer at the base of the rubber gasket to ensure that it will remain right at the bell housing the bad thing happened. How can i avoid now this to happen again? Should the edges of the neck and the retainer meet each other?(i mean the retainer is all in so the rubber steps to both edges)In my unit this seems impossible.During the tests the sterndrive worked well .PLEASE HELP
