Have you stuffed the little red kettle lately? The Salvation Army says donations are behind pace this year. But didn't they just inherit a gazillion dollars when Grandma McDonald passed on last year?

What scandal? The money is accounted for. The monies from "bell ringers" is down.

Target has seen my business go away. Not only for their stupid decision but also for the condescending letter I got in response to a letter I sent them. They say that the SA is a religious organization. Well, their letter sure was "preachy" to me stating how wonderful they are and that I should bow down to their alter.

I'm proud to say that each year our Boy Scout troop spends one weekend ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Donations more than double when the boys are out there with the bells.

Our church provided the bell ringers for one of the local Target stores. Didn't see the sign-up this year; I guess we failed to pick up the ball when Target dropped it.

I rarely walk past the bucket without dropping something in, sometimes just a coin or two, to encourage the brave soul standing there with the bell.

That would suit me fine. NOT the FOUR SOLID WEEKS of the obnoxious (paid $7 an hour) bums that are required to pull in a certain amount so they don't steal it themselves. Christmas crap out in stores in September, saw the first lights November 1st, the "Shopping Season?" has started. Give me a break. Merrychristmahannakwanzzaa. Glad I live rural and only go to town once a week. Humanity needs a life.

Yes they, salvation army, are a Christian org. but they do not push that on those who donate or recieve thier contributions so as far as Im concerned Target will get $0 dollars from me this and every yr after this one. I hope God Bless each person who donates time and money to the SA.....they helped a friend of mine whos house burt down and never asked a thing of him.

I thought the Target stores had a company wide rule about soliciting on store property and they side stepped that rule for the Salvation Army, but said that they had to stop it altogether cause it opened the doors for other groups to solicitate on the property.
Or is that just a cop-out on their part?

I don't know, maybe they are just saying right in front of the store at the entrances maybe.

I just don't trust people.I only give when it's the Boy Scouts or some sweet little oll lady.
I don't give to those people standing at the intersections with a plane white bucket with something hand written on a piece of paper taped on it either.I think these people should have some kind of permit or something.I have no problem giving to a reputable organization, but I want to be sure that's who is getting my money.
I hate being like that, but people suck.

I believe it is just a cop-out. I have boycotted Target since then... just my little way of protest.

Ask the folks who were victimized by the hurricanes if The Salvation Army does any good.

I have to say,in 93 our small little town was all but wiped out ,do to flooding. The Red Cross was gone as soon as the Media was,but the S.A.was here for at least 1year after. They had hot meals everyday(breakfast, lunch, and dinner)offered all kinds of cleaning supplies and would do just about anything to help the people of our town out. They are a very Honorable charity.

Re: Bell Ringers

I have read from several sources, that "Targut" is a French owned company. 'Nuff said on that part.

The Salvation Army has the lowest overhead of any charity that I know of and it has been like that for many, many years. I give more $$$ to the Salvation Army, than I do to our church. (my wife makes up the difference, for sure)
Needless to say, the Salvation Army is my favorite charity organization and has been for the last 50 years.

I have NEVER given to the "United Way", nor will ever. This is due to their dispersal of donated monies to special interest groups who are not deserving, due to their questionable activities and their very high overhead not withstanding.

The Red Cross is also another agency with "high overhead." Some years ago, there was a big flap about the head of the Red Cross receving an annual salary over $250,000, of donated money. His only requirement was to attend 4 high profile meeting's a year!!!
I sure hope that has been rectified.

I also am a big suporter of Disabled American Veteran's and the Crippled Childred Fund, which is funded by Elks Lodges all over the USA, which I have been a member of for over 30 years.

...Bob in Calif... "Have you stuffed the little red kettle lately?" Nope..

SA is a fine organization, but I prefer keeping my charitible contributions close to home through a small "grass roots" group that focuses on south Florida... Given the circumstances of the last few months, home seems a bit more important this year...
http://www.lovedoctors.org/ Much more than toys..

As for Target... Ahhh.. Target seems "fruity" too me....
Not that there's anything wrong with "fruity"...
