So going over the boat for the first time this year I noticed the, what I'm sure is the exhaust bellow, has a huge hole in it. Being fairly new to boating in general I'm having a hard time figuring out which out drive I have. It a mercruiser and serial number 6904995. I'm sure it's an alpha given the 120hp mercruiser on a 17' boat but I'm not sure of the submodel? R M MR? Any suggestions or even part numbers would help!

the R uses a preload pin on the lower driveshaft, the MR dosent. The MC1 uses a preload pin and the rear cav plate is rounded, as the R,MR,Alpha has a squared off plate

If you don't want to pop for the bellows expander tool then you can use this
[h=1]Part # 78458A 1 - EXHAUST TUBE ASSEMBLY[/h] The regular exhaust bellows that you need an expander tool for is [h=1]Part # 18654A 1 - BELLOWS ASSEMBLY[/h] Don't forget bellows adhesive and be sure to look over the shift boot and drive bellows they should really all be replaced at the same time. You will need the hinge pin tool as well.

If you go to mercruisers web site and punch in the serial # it should come up as to what model it is. As for the exhaust bellows, I would just leave it for now, that will not cause a leak into the boat. That being said you should closely inspect the other two bellows because if the exhaust is bad then the shift and u joint ones are probably in poor shape.

Ok thank you everyone! Got all the info I need and since I'm not sure the last time the bellows have been changed, I'm going to do a complete bellows/hoses/gimbal change. A guy I work with has been around boats his whole life and has kindly offered to give me a hand. Thanks again for your help.
