Bellow Glue

I need to replace my driveshaft bellow on my drive and was reading that you are suppose to use bellow glue when installing the bellow. After further reading I found that some people only use it as a precaution to make sure that the bellow doesn't come off when reinstalling the drive. While others say that it will be okay without the glue as long as you make sure it doesn't get bumped off when installing and make sure that the clamps are on tight.

Do I need to get the glue for the bellow or will I be okay if I just make sure that it is clamped on tight and there is no gaps?

the manual says to use bellows adhesive , most use it, some use 3M Weatherstrip adhesive or simply contact cement

I have some of the 3M adhesive in the garage so I will just use that but will check the bellow once it's in the water too.

The mechanical fastening of the drive shaft bellows to the flange is not all that substantial, plus the penalty of failure is quite high. For those 2 reasons you should use the adhesive.

using the adhesive actually makes the task easier. You can install the bellows on the bell without tightening the clamp, let it sit for a couple minutes and the glue actually holds the bellows in place so that you can move the bell and reach in there to tighten the clamp without the bellows popping off.

For the few bucks it cost why cut corners? Just make sure you let it setup for a 5-10 minutes before installing.
