Just want to start by saying this forum is great for a new boater like myself....

I'm going to make a bellow sleeve installer from 0.5 inch plywood. Does anyone have the inside and outside dimensions for this installer tool? (I have not receive my bellow kit at-this-point, so I can't measure the ring and would like to make the installer beforehand)

Also, I'm going to do a bellow job on my mercruiser Alpha Gen2 (u-joint, exhaust, shift cable and coolant hose). Does anyone have good sources that you can point me to for information on going this this job?

Thanks in advance!!

I just did the same job on an Alpha one gen one.
For U joints Autozone loans a ball joint separator for free, you'll need it DONT forget to remove the clips before pressing them out
Put the u joint bellows on the outdrive first and push onto transom side, nearly impossible the other way around, don't forget the adhesive
I put an exhaust tube on instead of exhaust bellows because its easy
use a chaser for the shift cable line
Take your time unscrewing the shifter cable out of the bellhousing. Mine felt like it could srip out any second. I soaked it in BP blaster for a couple days prior to removing
Look at condition of trim/limit senders. Now is the time to change them while you have it apart

Don’t need a retainer ring installer. Liberally spray carb cleaner on the rubber for a lubricant and if the bellows is sitting in the groove perfectly you can slide/push the ring in by hand. Installer just get in the way.
