Re: bellows

Replacing belows... major challenge. I had a similar experience about a year ago - just could not fix it. I dont know the answer of your question however I went through 3 mechanic to get this done - just didnt happen.

Here at the forum somebody recomended to replace the Transom Plate (which comes with all the belows and power trims assembled) and that ended my problem. Transom plate -brand new- is approximately $1000. It is well worth it, almost similar amount in labor you are going to spend to fix the old unit, not to mention the irritation and hassle...

Consider.

Re: bellows

i started to remove my brass nut and it started rounding off, so i stopped. you might try heat on the housing and/or an electronics freeze spray on the brass to break it free and try to turn it with vice grips. or a dremel tool with a cutting head. might have to retap the hole. call a repair shop and see if they will tell you what they do. i would like to know myself.

I had the same problem when changing my cable. Heat, freeze, liquid wrench, E-Z outs were tried.

In the end, had to drill the whole thing. I used an undersized drill, a round file and tap to remove the remaining bits in the threads. Tap is a 1/4 NPT. Be careful not to over tap it or the new cable will not seal, its a tapered thread tap.

Remember to observe the part on removing the spiral wrap inside the transom before pulling the cable out.
