Bench test lower unit?

Just wondering... Can you tell if a lower unit is good on the bench? Everything feels smooth and easy to turn. Prop and imput shafts turn seperatly and easily. When I put 12v to the forward/reverse coils the input and prop shafts lock together. I am waiting on seals so I cant just throw it together and test it yet. So far it is looking good for a 200.00 unit!

I pulled the seals and I don't know if the piece in the pick is part of the old seal or is it supposed to be there?

Just responding to your post, as I don't have a clue. Sounds like you have a Stringer unit. If so. just thought I'd let you know, there's a FB page out there for OMC Stringers. Maybe those folks can help. Good luck!

Randy, I've never done a test like this and am not sure the best way to do the testing. HOWEVER, if I understand the drive right -

You should be able to energize the F or R gear with 12v, and then if you turn the prop you should see the shaft turn. No energy, nuthin' should happen when you spin the prop.

Sorry - you're in uncharted territory for me.
