Is there anyway to test a stator from a '79 inline six 90hp Mercury. I've been having intermettent spark problems and I wonder if it's the stator. I took it off and wonder if there's any way to check it. Thanks.

One more thing...the serial number of the engine is 5221045. Stamped on the stator is the number 2678. I've been looking around for a new one and come up with a couple different ones. Where or what is the best way/place to find which stator is the right one? thanks again.

CDI/Rapair is a lesser cost better replacement than Merc original. They can be found at many places. If you have the stator off the motor you can check the resistance of the windings:
Blue to ground and Blue/White to ground = 5800-7000 Ohms.
Red to ground and red/White to ground = 135-165 Ohms.
Leaving the stator on the motor yu can check DVA voltages. Blue to ground and blue/white to ground = 180V+. Red to ground and red /white to ground = 20V+.
