Bendix Nut Keeps Coming Loose

1971 50hp Johnson, The last two times I've had it out the nut that holds the bendix onto the starter shaft has come loose. My first thought is clean the shaft well and loctite it. My mistrust of loctite started me thinking of taking it to the drill press and and drilling the nut and shaft for a cotter key or perhaps a roll pin.

So how hard are these starter shafts? Hard enough I'll have trouble drilling it?

no you shouldn't have a problem drilling it
