I own a 1996 Four Winns with a OMC Cobra SX or Volvo Penta SX lower unit or whatever you wanna call it. I obviously hit something on the lake the other day. Bent the prop up and the prop shaft. It is visibly bent to the naked eye and in my opinion should be replaced not straightened. A new shaft thru Volvo Penta is $716, the repair place says he can sell it to me for $616. I know there are aftermarket choices, but I do not know what to stay away from. On the internet I am finding anything from $320 to $550. Looking for advice on where to get a shaft from. Part number for shaft is 3857675.

Re: Bent prop shaft

I bent the crap out of mine a couple of years ago and got it straightened. You could see the bend from across the yard, and the shop had it looking good as new.

I bent mine when my son was loading the boat and the SS prop ate up the boat ramp.

The owner of the shop said he had straightened a lot worse than mine.

Just something to consider. That volvo drive is supposedly really beefed up and handle the stresses of the straightening process.
