Besides prop, what all effects boat speed?

Once you finish the carb rebuild, check the engine mounting height in the transom. Mounted too low cause cause as much as a 20% loss in speed and fuel economy. And ditch the whale tail. It will just slow you down.

I know of at least a dozen guys who would argue the claim of there being nothing wrong with the merc left overs force outboards. Only thing they are good for is getting a cheap used trim motor off one that’s blown up...to fit to a good merc outboard. Haha.

Ok, thank you for the response. I have all three off and awaiting new rebuild kits. I think it is really strange that they have different part numbers from top to bottom. Someday I might swap motors but for now I'm enjoying working on this thing, it's a great learning experience.

You have different part #s because the linkages are different on the carbs.

I'm probably getting into other stuff here that may belong in another section, my apologies. Being that everyone who's responded knows a little about my history here, I'd like to keep this going. I rebuilt/cleaned the carbs and now she idles and starts nicely. I have a new issue. The motor has no power (very little) going forward and if I give it more throttle it will die. Once it dies, the motor loses complete power for a couple minutes (won't do anything). It does just fine in reverse. Any ideas what this could be?
