From mid 1970 to mid 1980's what would be the best all around motor in the 60-70hp range? Im talking relibility to fuel consumtion.
OMC 3 cylinder looper. Probably the best motor ever built.
without a doubt given your hp and vintage criteria.
Yamaha 3 cylinder, 2 stroke, with carbs....about as simple and bullet-proof as they get....I've owned a 4HP, a 40HP, a 115HP and a 90HP now since new in 1999....never a problem with any of them....basic preventive maintenance and clean, fresh gas are the keys to their reliability.....but if these motors had been Johnsons or Evinrudes or some other I may have gotten similar good service...who knows?....I do believe that the electrical systems in Yamahas may be better than some others....Just my experience!

Chrysler...Maybe I should stop drinking![]()
My collection is up to 63 now, but not one single Chrysler. Some years ago my friend bought one and after seeing all his problems, I wouldn't exactly rate it as reliable and fuel efficient!
